I watched a video of Grid on youtube and it looks like it could be a fun
diversion from the hardcore sim reacing I usually get into. Anyone here
actually think it is a good game? Or is your glass only half empty like
mine usually is and you think it is arcade crap?

I normally only play sims, but bought this on a whim. If you take it for
what it is, the game is awesome. I didn't even know my PC was capable of
shifting so many polygons so fluidly! Great damage modeling and good tight
racing. My only concern is that the controls don't feel as analogue as they
should be. Bottom line is download the demo and find out!

Demos are so huge in size now that I hate downloading demos. I would rather
just guage user opinions and go buy it if I like what I read. Your post is
a +1 so will wait a few more days and see how it swings.

By which time you could have downloaded and driven the demo.

People like you are the reason the ISP's are throttling our connections. I
don't waste bandwidth on massive game demos. That's reserved for porn.

You could get the demo from a PC / Gaming Magazine. For example, the
demo is on the latest Australian PC User Magazine. If you're not
Australian there's a possibility it's on another magazine in a country
near you.

Mike.

They charge $11.99 here for those gaming mags with demo disks. I used to
buy them years ago but not anymore. What I save by not buying those mags
pays for my internet connection. I will go see how large the download file
is for Grid demo and maybe download it.

I got it- hated it; they came out with a patch for the g25- so I
played the rest but it's not worth getting into after that; the racing
is all false, meaning you can cause an accident that leaves everyone
else behind you and in a moment they're right on your tail again. it's
ok for kids to play, but very disappointing if you appreciate simbin.
it's about as realistic as space invaders.

OK, thanks for the feedback. That's 1 for and 1 against. Keep 'em coming.

For a sim...

Well its LOOKS like real racing, cars, roads, etc...
In fact more so than almost anything I have messed with.

The Driving...

Its fun but very frustrating at times. Whats everyone fascination with
drifting?!?!
Feels like the car pivots on its center instead of turning sometimes.

The AI....

Horrible in some regards. Like someone mentioned above, the AI can crash
hard and suddenly a half a lap later they are ramming your trunk.

The good part is that they do crash, on thier own and mostly in realistic
situations.
Taking corners too fast, trying to pass, etc... Fot that alone its almost
worth the price
of admission.

Overall....

Its a GREAT arcade type racer that borders on sim, but nonetheless it is
an arcade style racer that will give you fits trying to win and very little
sense of accomplishment
when you do, other than that you survived the laps and over agressive AI.

Can't be any worse than the AI in LFS. Can't complete one lap in LFS with
that AI rear ending me all the time.

Keep in mind that you will need a video card capable of pixel shader 3.0 to
play the demo.
