Hey all...I have a dual boot machine but I have tried everything to
get N2003 working properly in vista. I have the ultimate version. I
turned aero off, shut down DRM, indexing, you name it all the features
it prides itself on. GTR2 runs fine. In open gl I get full fps and all
starts good but then as soon as the race start fps drop and the game
gets choppy. D3D is choppy right from the get go. Specs:

Abit AW9D-Max
Intel E6600 @ 3.2 GHz
2GB G Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ 4-4-4-12 451 MHz
EVGA 8800 GTX
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB
OCZ GameXstream 700W PSU
X-FI Xtreme Gamer
Zalman 9700
Cooler Master STC-T01

Curious if anyone is having any luck getting it to run well in vista?

Welcome to the club that has the most expensive card nVidia sells that
doesn't work worth a sh.t under Vista.

Only real idea is to try the latest drivers for the 8800 from the nVidia
site.

I'm not installing it on vista yet because I can't get the G25 to work.
Their promised upgrade to the software is supposed to be out this month.

I have a similiar system with Vista Ultimate and have no problems with N2003
at all. I have an Asus P5N32 SLI (NV 680i), E6600 @ 3.2ghz, 2x 8800 GTX
768mb EVGA Superclocked cards in SLI. When I made the move to Vista, I had
N2003 installed from XP on to my D drive. I just reinstalled it over the old
install and was able to keep all mods etc that I had. Everything works very
well with no display problems at all. I have also ran with just one card and
had no problems. I cannot get GTL to run at all however. Rfactor does fine
as does GTR and GTR2. I am sorry but I just don't have an answer for you.
BTW, I do use the NOCD crack for NR2003. You might try that just for grins
and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks guys...I tried everything in your thread. It seems hit or miss.
I can get it up and running it just performs poorly. I'll keep trying.
I have a dual boot machine so I can go into xp and get my laps in.
thanks!

I had the same problem with N2003 and Vista Premium and similar system
specs.  To get it to work in D3D here is what I changed:

Open your rend_dxg.ini file with any text editor.
Change the value in the line "TextureSetSize=xxxxxxxx" to
"TextureSetSize=774586368"
Save and start N2003.

I found that I have to run it at 1280 x 1024 as some tracks with lots of
hi-res textures will still result in choppy framerate.  If you still have an
issue you might have to use a utility called "NR Graphic Tweaker.exe" and
set the graphic card memory to 64 Meg and then change the rend_dxg.ini file.

I believe the problem stems from the 3D config utility from N2003 does not
recognize the 768 Megs of video memory on the GTX8800 and sets it to
something like 32 Meg when it runs.

Good Luck

Thanks Don! Still no luck..tried it in open gl also to no avail. Still
choppy in d3d. Open gl starts out smooth but then the fps get choppy.
Now I am to the point where I am almost fixated on getting it to run
smoothly. I think I have tried just about everything I know of.  Any
more suggestions please pass along.

I tried some manual memory tweaks. I have the tweaker program but
tried calculating by hand also. I think it is a way N2003 and Vista
handle system memory. All the graphical tweaks come up with the exact
same behavior. I just can't put my finger on it.

Well I can get it working right on my crt. A 21" viewsonic. If I plug
in my 22" Samsung 226BW LCD I get the same problem described in the
first post. For the life of my I can't figure it out. did a clean
install of vista. Even tried 32 and 64 bit for comparison. Is the
widescreen causing the problem? The game supports the native
resolution of the monitor (1680*1050). Mmmm...

I'm running it fine on an XP machine at 1680 X 1050.

I kept that machine just for NR2003.  I wanted to run it on my new build
(E6700 C2D/8800GTX/24" LCD) but between these issues and the G25 issues with
Vista, I decided it was just as well to have a dedicated XP machine for it
now.

In a way, it's nice.  No taking the controller down.  No superfulous
software slowing it down, no "getting the machine ready", etc...   And a
4800X2 and GeForce 7800GTX are more than enough power for NR2003.

I can just boot and drive!

I really did want to see it on the 24" though :)

Well Larry...with the dual boot I can always go into xp which is fine.
Mine runs in the wide resolution perfectly in xp also.

Oh well if I come up with a solution I will post. Thanks!

I have Vista home ultimate and it runs fine.

Most Vista problems are driver issues...(No pun intended)

Is a Vista a car-- I mean for the pun.  Otherwise, I'm missing the play.

Sorry, I can't help you on the N2003 thing.  But I'm curious, if you're
dual-booting and N2003 works on XP, what do you want Vista for.  Or if it's
working on one version of Vista and not the other, what does it matter, just
use the boot that works with N2003.

I dumped Vista a little while back.  It's okay; but being primarily a gamer,
I don't see the advantage of Vista, except to be cool and up-to-date.  :)

"Driver issues" - either the simulation driver, or the driver (s) on the
system.

Interesting...simulation drivers. Safe to say it is a lost cause
getting this game to run within Vista?

I originally planned on moving forward with Vista. Once XP is no
longer supported things will eventually change. However yes I use
mostly XP at home however Vista is now used for those tech support
calls coming in from friends, associates, etc. who use proprietary
machines and have issues.

No, it is NOT a lost cause to get NR2003 running with Vista!!!!

I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit, and I got NR2003 running without an issue.
I simply installed it from the CD, applied the official patch, and it worked
right away.  I have the current NVidia 64-bit Vista WHQL drivers.  Basic
system specs:

Intel 35DP35 motherboard
Intel E6750 Core 2 Duo CPU @ 2.66GHz
2GB Crucial DDR2-800 RAM
500GB Western Digital Caviar hard drive
eVGA 8800GT 512MB video card
Logitech Momo Racing Force Feedback steering wheel

FWIW, I have no issues whatsoever with Vista.  Every game I have tried works
without issue, including Bioshock, Orange Box, Crysis, Mass Effect,
Assassins Creed, Guild Wars, Lord of the Rings Online, NR2003, F.E.A.R., ...

The only driver issue I have ever encountered with Vista is with a 5-year
old Canon scanner - there is no 64-bit driver available.  New scanners work
fine, and most importantly for NR2003, the steering wheel works fine.

The main reason I went with Vista 64-bit when I built this PC is because I
didn't want any memory limitations (32-bit has a 3GB limitation because of
hardware address space).  On the plus side, I find Vista much more stable
than XP - I've never had a BSOD, and never had the OS lock up or crash.
Everything about it seems superior to me over XP.
