It's just arrived on the shelves here in South Africa. Is it worth getting,
have sim and 'arcady' mode settings, run without problems, FUN?

Take care, I confuse easily. ;)

If you thought the official demo was OK you should get it.

Totally agree.

ISI engined sims can take a bit of tweaking to get right with your wheel.
Invest the time with the demo.

I've long failed miserably with ISI based sims. Finally got it working well
with the GTR demo and rushed out to buy the game.

Now I am hooked :)

Cheers

Isn't flightless the same guy who said GTP wasn't worth the effort with
GTR being around? ;)
Revvin - 29 Mar 2005 12:42 GMT
YES! ABSOLUTELY!

Great sim, get it. Many of the F1C tracks are converted, also the famous
Nuerburgring Nordschleife.

It has three levels:
Arcade (with, I think, 4 or 5 Sublevels)
Semi Simulation

Thanks for the comments, will get it. :)

Has 3 levels (most of the effort has gone into the hardcore; I haven't
bothered w. the others and neither should you - otherwise get Gran Turismo
4).

Huge fun!  Drives more like a real car (mass, suspension, tires, road feel)
than any other sim.

Big multiplayer probs, mostly league stuff (pickup races are fine).
Fabulous hot-lapping, decent AI; deep, satisfying immersion.

Still confused?  Wait for Forza.

Can anybody verify if it works on win98 SE?

Forget it. I believed what they put on the box in the German version
("98SE recommended", haha), and was genuinely bitten in the proverbial
arse by the marketing blurb. Esp. the online part was worthless with
earlier patches, but I doubt they've put any money or effort into
improving the 98SE support.

Meanwhile I've stuffed about 500 Eus worth of hardware in the box and
"upgraded" to winxp pro SP2 (company license). Was it worth it? Every
cent ;-)

All the best,

First Tony tells us he likes GTR, now Uwe runs XP....  Whats next?  Maybe
Racing Legends or (sry Jack) GPal will be released after all ;)

GPaL had an installer problem. So did GTP. I smell a rat...

makes it just about bearable ;-)

Work at home rights?  A Company XP License does not a *free* copy of Windows
make, eh?  You should ask was it worth it for the owner of said license that
will have to eventually pay for your usage?

I use MS licenses daily and its VERY easy for techs to forget that it will
be paid for by someone when that number is generated.  Its become a major
issue, sadly.

If you have a site agreement with microsoft, I can't really see the issue.

And the prices of Microsoft products are not based on costs, they're based on
how much they can charge before numbers go down. It gets harder and harder to
get the loyalty and moral of customers with time that way.

How someone in his right mind can buy Office2003 for 1099 Euros while M$ reap
huge revenues is totally beyond me. It is laughable, really. Ridiculous. And
Microsoft are concerned about piracy? How hard can it be to understand, I say...

You really think that I, linux evangelist that I am, would bow down
and *pirate* Microsoft stuff???

I asked your windows support and they told me that our company
contract states that a license for home use is included.

Counting the number of windows machines I have formatted here that
only run Linux and nothing else I'd say I still have a few xp licences
to share ;-)

Yes it is possible for corporates to include home use of it's purchased MS
products. We had it for a while, the only constraint was that the copy of
the license had to come from a PC being 'mostly' used by the employee. In
other words if you have a PC at work that you are the main user you can use
the MS products at home.

However that did change where I worked some time later.

It seems so yes, says so in the box.

Just wondering: did they leave that statement on the box for the
international release? Some bloke here pretending to be a simbin dev
or at least someone close to their circles said something to the
effect that this notice would be removed for the international release
(you might want to ask google groups about it).

Cheers,

As a fellow South African, all I can say is : GET IT. It'll give you
something to do instead of watching Super12 LOL. Helps a lot if you can
throw high end hardware at it.

Hey Deon, Super 12... AAAARRRRGGHH ;) Worse than the cricket and that's
saying something. LOL.

Haven't finished NFSU2 yet, picked up GTR and Silent Hunter 3 from the shelf
Saturday and had to choose.... GTR or Silent Hunter 3.... GTR or Silent
Hunter 3.... GTR or Silent Hunter 3.... put GTR back. But soon, very soon.
