Joe Lomas - 17 Jul 2004 12:22 GMT I'm sure some of you noticed a few days ago on OLR, you had to download a new .cab file before entering the arena. The reason why I kept quite on explaining what the upgrade does; because we have installed a Cheat Detection on OLR. I wanted to see who was being a "bad boy" and sure enough I did catch a few people :)
on OLR, I will say that we take cheating on our servers a serious issue. The way our cheat detection system is setup, there is no way somebody can give me an excuse they didn't cheat. We have spent some considerable amount of research and funds to get this project completed. Even though we have completed and have an Anti-Cheat system in place, we are still continuing to stay up with the times and keep this our top priority to have the most robust system in place.
Here are the ground rules. If you run a league on OLR, please email me the name of your league, your screen name and email address. On Flashpoint Racing Series, there is no need. I have all the CRS information for Flashpoint. If you run a non-Flashpoint league on OLR, I need you to email me ASAP. Once I catch a driver cheating on OLR, you will be notified, as well as the driver who attempted to cheat.
If you are a basic, standard, or premium member and get caught cheating, then expect to receive an immediate 30 day suspension. Your admin of all leagues you run on OLR will also be notified that you have been suspended from OLR for 30 days. If you get caught a 2nd time, then expect your screen name to be permanently deleted from OLR. On free members who race on OLR, if you are caught cheating, you can expect me to delete your screen name from OLR and will never be able to use it again.
As you see, we are taking this very serious and I will always be watching. A few members have already been contacted and was pretty surprised I knew to the exact second when they attempted. Also note, once you are caught cheating, the system doesn't disconnect you. We tried running that, but it was causing latency issues. It can be really embarrassing if you are caught cheating on OLR and winning your race, only to have all of your points revoked and suspended for 30 days.
I want to thank all of you for being patient and feel this will ensure a level playing field on OLR, and knowing the drivers racing next to you are legit. I will also say in the past few days, I was very pleased; because many of the drivers that people thought were cheating, was in fact not cheating, but were good; because they have put the effort by practicing.

I am confident that somebody will find a way around your policing, but I hope you do suceed in limiting cheating. Perhaps a 'Wall of Shame' website could be created. And maybe the online guys at (new)Papyrus will emulate your commitment to non-cheating. Good intentions should be rewarded.

Mitch_A - 17 Jul 2004 17:32 GMT Is this anti cheat system something that can be purchased from OLR or shared with other race series Joe?

[quoted text clipped - 53 lines] > > We Provide Web Hosting Solutions > > http://frshosting.com If I was OLR I would not sell the software . It gives OLR a advantage over other server out fits . Also if this software works good , It would make allot of sence to move your leagues to OLR . The have a great price structure and the fact that a basic member can set up a server 24/7 to practice for there league races makes OLR a real good choice .
Joe Lomas - 18 Jul 2004 13:44 GMT We spent close to 20K getting this setup. Also, the way we have the cheat detection working, is not only on OLR, but on any game that is being run on OLR. I might get DTR running again, but need to do more testing. I can tell you that any game being run will get detected, if it's on OLR. This is all embedded into the required files when you first race on OLR.
To run on OLR pick up arena it doesn't cost you any money. If a driver wants to run in the 50+ non-flashpoint leagues, it only cost them 3.95 per month. If a league wants to race on OLR, the league owner pays 13.95; because they have access to league tools to create their own league, schedule, driver list and newsletter and no website is required. Members only pay 3.95 per month and can join any league from http://www.onlineracin.com/LeagueTool/LeagueFinder.asp and only pay the same price. We have other higher plans, but it's not bad for that amount.
From the responses I'm getting, it looks like I might have to get a "wall of shame" created. Right now, the database gives me the memberid number and I have to go to another page to see who that member is. I think we can easily make a page to only show the screen name. Once that screen name pops up, I might go as far as removing that screen name from the database, so the cheater can never use that screen name again, just losing their ranking and everything else.
We are looking to adding other games in the future. The cheat detection took a long.... time in the making, but feel like it took a huge burden off my back. It was really sad to see innocent drivers get accused of cheating.
There was another remark made about people will always find ways. That's true, which is why we are spending some bucks every month to do constant research and always keeping up with times to keep the cheat detection updated. I'm really happy we have it setup with all games instead of just one. It makes adding additional games more easy and know we have a tool to fight against cheaters instead of relying on the maker of the game for cooperation. That adds up quickly for guys that only want to run a race or two per week. Id love to see RASCAR on OLR but compared to our $20/mo I just cant justify it.

OLR is not for everybody. If all 20 only race on RASCAR and free leagues and nothing else, then I can see OLR would not be for them. If drivers are having to pay server dues for separate leagues, then it can really add up. On OLR, a driver only pays 3.95 per month and can race as much as 50 different leagues without having to pay for any additional fees. If they want to run in 50+ non-fp leagues and 40+ Flashpoints leagues, then it's only 7.95 per month.

We do not tolerate cheating in any form: Onlineracin.com uses cheat detection software to determine if third party software is running on any client machines that alters the natural environment of the game. If such software is found, the offending party is found to be in violation a first time, said party will receive an immediate thirty day suspension from Onlineracin.com. If a second offense is detected, the offending party's screen name, statistics and race history will be permanently removed from Onlineracin.com.
All violations (First & Second) will be available publicly via the "wall of shame" list Offenders will be banned from Flashpoint Racing Leagues and Onlineracin.com sanctioned events after the first offense. Private league owners may ban drivers at their own discretion based on the information provided by Onlineracin.com.
Tyrone Jackson - 22 Jul 2004 00:46 GMT I think you should also post their telephone numbers, email addresses and full names and addresses. Have it published in their local newspapers. Jump start an IRS tax audit etc..

For years we've had rumours about certain individuals cheating. Now, if OLR can document the trangressions, we can all learn the do's and don'ts of cheating. I'd rather be fully informed than just rely on the online chats to hear suspicions of cheaters. And...the REAL fast people can have any black cloud removed from themselves. I don't race on OLR, so I'm speaking in theory, but I do know cheating has been prevelant in the past, and I'm pretty sure it will continue in some form in the future. But I applaud OLR for attempting to give their PAYING CUSTOMERS real value.

Joe Lomas - 22 Jul 2004 18:19 GMT Giving full disclosure is not a good idea. Reason being, even free members can race on OLR and you can put in any name you want when creating screen names.
Also want to give you guys a heads up that we have corrected an exploit on our OLR Cheat detection. People were trying to be creative by launching a race, then closing the OLR Applet prior to entering the game, thus bypassing the OLR cheat detection. We have made the corrections on OLR, so even if you close the Race Arena, it will still detect if you are running cheats on OLR.
In addition to this, it will add a process once you launch the game. Once the game is launched, the driver would not be able to go back to windows and terminate the process. If you are attempting to terminate the cheat detection, I will be alerted, then you will be promptly notified :) Once the game shuts down, then the cheat detection process will terminate.
There are two separate reports that I will get. One, if somebody tries to shut off the Cheat Detection, and the Second one is if somebody is actually running a cheat program. The second report, I will post screen names for those people who try to cheat on OLR for all to see :)
Good news for Flashpoint Racing Series drivers. There is no need to upload replays and results for cheat detection. Of course, if you are in the top 3, you still need to send your results to your admin, and save replays if somebody is filing a protest against you. But we no longer require you to upload those files.
