Re installing GPL

I need to do a reinstall of GPL but seem to remember from last time that
there is a certain order to do it in for team fix to work. I know i need to
install 1.2 patch team fix, CPU speed patch. What others are there and what
order. I have an athlon 2.4 with a radeon 9000 card if this makes a
difference. Is glide or d3d better for this card and what patches are neede
for this.

Basically, it's like this:

go to trackdb.d2g.com and download the All-in-One patch.

(If you want to install the 65 Mod (which you want to, and if you don't
you'd regret it later on since it's great), install the carsound patch
mentioned at

http://55and65.speedgeezers.com/gpl65/gpls1.html

(Make sure you've got all the sounds and named right too, though,
otherwise gpl won't enter any race screen.))

Done.

This is what I did to install the whole kaboodle on my brothers XP
system and apart from some add-ons (you want the GPLEA cars and tracks
from gplea.org) this worked fine in one go.

Ruud, can you expand on this?

I thought I did all of this right, I assume I missed a readme or something,
I downloaded the "sounds" (albeit a while back) and assumed I had it all
nicely situated. Didnt notice much (actually probably no change but you
know how your mind migh say, yeah that is different, due to the suggestion
that I did change it, LOL)

That is until I downloaded the magnificent *NEW* GPLDemo, and on a whim I
installed it (the idea was to let my son play the demo instead of letting
him messing around with my GPL install/player ... it points out that I have
about the worst luck installing all the stuff for GPL... that Demo looked
200% nicer than anything I accomplished...

Last thing for the GPL'rs & coders. I would like to make an Icon so that
the game Launches, all setup for my boy, much like I do for him in NR200x,
that way when I show up just in time to run a race on my league night, that
my player hasn't had the setups fugged up (as he learns to snoop around in
game), and cars changed? Is it possible? Or do I just make another install
just for him, and Bury the Icon I would use for my install?

LOL... I made that mistake 1 time in Nr03, I dint have the shortcut to
NR03, pointing to his player, and he somehow deleted my race setup... LOL
God I was pissed, It was my most likely track to place high... Well, the
setup had reverted to <none> I notice after I was more or less crashed
out... and went to the garage going "What the Hell heppen to this fast
setup I got from..." BTW, I knew I was in trouble when I hit f7 (meaning to
hit autochat7) and the tape was at 40%, but as you know you cant change the
setup when you join the race session... :P

Well if you didn't notice much then it's all right I guess... You're not
supposed to notice much until you install the 65 Mod - which you might
need the FULL GPL for - , then you notice you've got a bunch of new
sounds for the 65 cars. You need to have the right number of sounds (I
guess 7 + 7 so 14 total) and named right (should find that in the
readmes: names like h65.wav I think) otherwise the game won't let you race.

It should, it has all the modern GPL add-on trimmings and then some.
Seems to be a very popular download lately. I don't know if it's fully
usable for online stuff and such, though, I think it's only usable for
the Glen and Monza and maybe not for 65. (Buying GPL for next to nothing
like you can today, is still the best thing to do! :)

Best thing is just to copy the entire GPL folder and use that for a
separate install. That way, nothing much can happen and you'd still have
your own folder as a good backup. (You might want to change the odd
pointer to gpl.exe here and there for the new folder though.) Same thing
with installing the 65 Mod: just make a folder copy and work from that.
Luckily, GPL allows you to do that as long as you work from the same OS,
like 98 or XP, and don't mix-nd-match.

And the All-in-One patch from trackdb.d2g.com is really handy to bring
your GPL install up-to-date for modern systems like XP on a 2 GHz
machine; worked fine on my brothers' pc. So first you patch that and if
that folder works, just copy the entire folder. If you use the new GPL
2004 demo I think that's already patched and you just copy the folder.
And then make some aliases for each gpl.exe to sit on the Win desktop
afterwards.
