This being RAS I figured I could ask about a good office type chair for
racing. I don't care what it looks like. If it's straight out of an F1 car
or it looks like something an astronaut would use I don't care. So tell me
what you put under your a.s that keeps u racing until the wee hours of the
night.

I'll second that.  Only one prob: you need to disable the casters, or you'll
find repeated brake applications will move you far, far away from yer desk.
The casters have little locking mechanisms, but they don't keep the wheels
from sliding, so I wrapped 'em in little terrycloth washcloths (kinda like a
Caster Cozy), which stopped the Pro Seat dead in its tracks.  So to speak.

No problem with the caster. The office chair I'm on has casters, unlocked,
but has zero travel since it's on a shag type rug. I'd like to know what you
think of dealing with Pro Seat? I know nothing about them except that they
used to advertise on OLR. The difficult thing is ordering without test
driving. Does the company do a good job of getting the details? I know they
say to call them for orders so that the details can be taken care of. I'll
probably call them but I want to know what their feedback has been like.

I have the Saturday Night Special and enjoy the heck out of it. I'm a
tall/big person and this chair puts me in the right position for racing the
sim.
I've owned the chair for a couple years now and believe me it's built to
last. I recommend the chairs to everyone.

I had some problems initially, due to a misunderstanding, but when I
complained, they bent over backwards (so to speak) to fix the prob, and
seemed genuinely interested in providing customer satisfaction.  If you get
a chair based on the Kirkey seat, make sure you get the appropriate width.
I thought I had pretty slim hips (blush!), but the narrowest seat (17", I
think) was a pretty tight fit...as it should be...in a racing car.  You
might want a little more room to squirm around, unless yer living room in on
a gimball.  Very well made (and designed) product, at a very reasonable
cost.

Tried to get in touch with Pro Seat. The phone number just answered with the
line is temporarily not in service. Emailed them and am waiting to hear.
Other choices are a place called simracerseats.com. Same basic idea. Bolt a
racing seat onto a office chair base. Looks cheaper and is about 100 bucks
cheaper. Their phone just says leave a message. Haven't heard from them yet
so I emailed them too.
Last choice visited a office furniture store. Have some nice office chairs
for not too expensive. Going over tomorrow to pick one up for a two day test
drive.

It looks cool, but why is it so much better than a comfortable office chair?
They probably cost about the same, and an office chair won't have people giving
you strange looks when they visit...<g>

I clip the wheel on a bracket about the level of a keyboard tray and sit in
a $10 lawn chair, the level is about right, it doesn't move around and it
has that layed back feel you don't get from an office chair.

I'm using a 1998 Acura Integra driver seat that I got from my local scrap
yard for $50.00 CDN.
I created a wood base for it and it's really great, confortable, stable an
easy to move forward and back.

I use one of those chairs you usually find in waiting rooms. Metal frame
with straight back at 90 degree angle from the seat. Back and seat made of
fake leather. It makes a nice office chair and its really cheap (the
equivalent of 35 USD at the local Staples).

For me it has two advantadges: 1-it has no wheels so it doesn't slide back
and 2-it has a straight back, I can't sim-drive with a tilted chair (must be
a child trauma).

Gotta confess: once it broke with 12 laps to go in a Nascar league race, the
fake leather ripped (160 pounds here, not too heavy). My a.s got stuck way
down, I woke up my wife screaming like a madman , she helped me up and I was
able to finish 3rd in the race :-) driving standing up.

I just bought another one and reinforced the bottom with duck tape.

Oh: another thing: there are 2 variants of the chair: one with standard
armrests and another with  rounded armests, the later is bettter cous your
arms have more room.

Good Luck

I use a Global Leather Executive Chair I got from Staples.  It cost $199 and
I've had it for 5 years now.  It's an excellent chair.

I can't use 'small' chairs.  First, I have severe back/spine problems and
must have a high-back chair.  Secondly, I'm 6'4" @ 300lbs and most average
chairs require a crowbar to remove after I sit in them for a while :)

Ive got a Lazy Boy I sit in with 2 end tables flanking it slightly forward
and my Momo mounted on a piece of 1/2" ply 12"x45" each end resting on an
end table.  Almost too comfy, gotta catch myself from nodding off once in a
while :-)  My monitor rests on a custom shelf that lets my legs extend under
it letting me get within arms reach of the mon.  My KB is mounted on an old
swiveling monitor stand thats attached to my left end table and my mouse has
an extension that lets me run it under the lazy boy and onto the right end
table.  My TV resides just to the right of the monitor in case a RL race is
in progress while Im online.

Now if I could just find more time to use it :-)

I've been considering making a similar setup, but this is one case where my
22" Mitsubishi is somewhat of a disadvantage :)

I run a 22" NEC.  Pretty similar form factor (huge).
